Martin Bakker was hooked on surfing from the first time he entered the water at Kitchen Windows in 1976. Over the years he has become passionate about Jeffreys Bay and the surrounding areas. He was fortunate enough to move to Jeffreys in the 80s. Despite all the radical changes taking place with development in recent years, he uses art to preserve the classic look of J-Bay that he fell in love with all those years ago. This can be seen in his etchings and oil paintings.
Martin works as a freelance artist. In both 2007 and 2009, he was commissioned to create the trophies for the Billabong Pro competition. In 2009, he created the new floating trophy. The new floating trophy is a wood sculptured aloe with copper leaves and vibrant African beaded flowers.
